The Arts

In the Arts, students explore a broad range of artistic endeavours including drama, dance, music, visual art and design.

Students are encouraged to explore the field of the Arts that best suits their personal interest through specialisation. This allows for a more in depth study of the chosen art form, enabling students to extend themselves as learners and enrich their learning. Specialisation includes art, dance, drama and music.

The arts facilitates students’ exploration of expression through creative thinking, design, communication and critical thinking.

Throughout all year levels, students have the option to specialise in an area of the arts that they would like to explore further based on their interests and passion.

In year 8, Arts is compulsory and students must choose two terms of their preferred field. Students can also select additional Arts in specialised areas such as specialist music, for an additional semester or year.

From year 9 onwards, the Arts are elective subjects, and students can choose to study their specialist field of art. This includes dance, drama, music, visual art and design.

These specialisations continue through to the senior years with Stage 1 and Stage 2 students having the opportunity to study music, visual art – art, visual art – design, and dance and drama through creative arts.

We have a strong Arts department, and set high expectations for ourselves and our students, leading to high calibre performances and innovative artworks. We ensure our students take centre stage in their learning and their curriculum is student led through student voice. In the Arts, this means students have input into curriculum design, task design, artistic styles, and genres studied.

Our Art spaces are designed for collaborative learning, with students having access to specialist equipment and resources such as clay, pottery wheels, and art supplies. Our performing arts space is a conducive environment for music, drama and dance productions enabling students to showcase their work to the wider community.

Craigmore High School participates in the Northern Adelaide State Secondary Schools’ Alliance (NASSSA) Battle of the Bands and was the winner of the perpetual trophy in 2019. Students also have the opportunity to showcase their musical and artistic talents through school functions such as Presentation Night, Graduation, school assemblies and performing at community events such as CanDance for a Cure and the Schools Challenge.

As part of our CARE program, Super Fruit is an audition based program that brings together our top performers to form a band. There are multiple opportunities for the band to showcase their skills in a variety of environments.
