Aboriginal Education

Craigmore High School is located on the traditional country of the Kaurna people of the Adelaide Plains. We recognise and respect their cultural heritage, beliefs, and relationship with the land, acknowledging their continuing importance to the Kaurna people living today.

Support and Engagement

Support with student attendance, retention and cultural connection at school through the Aboriginal Education Team and support programs.

Our Aboriginal Education Team supports the learning and wellbeing of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander students, with many families from diverse language groups across Australia. Our Kumangka Kuu (Together room) is a space designed to support cultural connection with our Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander students and their families.”

The Aboriginal Education Faculty at CHS includes Aboriginal Secondary Education Transition Officers and Aboriginal Education Teachers dedicated to educational, wellbeing, and cultural support.

Aboriginal Perspectives Across the Curriculum

Our Aboriginal Education Team provides services and programs to support teachers in creating inclusive learning environments. We work closely with educators to integrate Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander histories and cultures into the ACARA and SACE Curriculums. This includes developing culturally responsive teaching strategies, incorporating Indigenous perspectives into lesson plans, and offering professional development for staff.

SAASTA Program

Our community of successful learners is situated in Kumangka Kuu (Kaurna for Together Room), a culturally safe and inclusive space open to parents and students.

SAASTA students receive support from specialist teachers, ASETOs, AETs, and APAS tutoring. We have developed a specialised pathway for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander students to achieve SACE.

For more information, visit the SAASTA website or contact Craigmore High School’s SAASTA Coordinator, Billy Jackman.
