Languages
At Craigmore High School, the Languages faculty is dedicated to providing students with rich and meaningful educational experiences. Our program offers Spanish and Italian, supporting all learners, including those with no prior language experience, and fostering confidence in real-life communication. By experiencing different cultures through language, students expand their worldview, develop empathy, and gain valuable skills for future travel, study, and employment, shaping adaptable, open-minded, and worldly citizens.
Benefits of Language Learning
Research shows that learning a second language improves memory, problem-solving skills, and overall academic performance. Our goal extends beyond teaching students to read, write, and speak another language. We aim to nurture globally aware, culturally curious individuals who are better prepared to thrive in a connected world.
Curriculum and Learning Experiences
Our curriculum is guided by the research-informed approaches of Gianfranco Conti, with a strong focus on communication, fluency, and student engagement. Learning is enriched by dynamic experiences such as cultural excursions, and our annual Fiesta Day celebration, bringing language and culture to life beyond the classroom.
Middle Years
In the Middle Years, students are introduced to new ways of thinking and seeing the world through language learning. All students in Years 7 and 8 study a language for at least one semester, laying the foundations for future study. From Year 9 onwards, students may choose to continue their language journey by selecting Spanish or Italian as an elective.
Senior Years
Senior students may continue their language studies though external providers such as Open Access University and The School of Languages.
Upon SACE completion students may be eligible for bonus points toward their ATAR.
