HASS
Humanities and Social Sciences (HASS)
In Humanities and Social Sciences, students explore a range of social factors, including history, geography, politics, economics, business, civics, and citizenship. This area of study focuses on understanding the interrelationship between individuals, communities, and the world.
Curriculum Overview
HASS provides students with the opportunity to learn from past decisions and make predictions about the future through the study of History and Geography. It is compulsory from Year 7 to Year 10 and becomes an elective subject for Stage 1 and Stage 2 students.
Specialised Fields of Study
From Stage 1 onwards, HASS subjects are divided into separate fields, allowing students to choose their area of interest. Options include:
- Modern History
- Tourism
- Workplace Practices
- Society and Culture
Students can also negotiate fields of study that incorporate history and geography from thematic units, developing their evaluative and analytical skills for inquiry purposes.
This approach enables students to tailor their learning experience, fostering critical thinking and a deeper understanding of the world around them.
